Our beautiful lush green mountains do need watering occasionally, so it may rain at some point during your stay. But, you can only get so wet, so here is our round-up of the top ten things to enjoy when it does.

  1. Make a splash in Europe’s highest water park, Aquariaz up in Avoriaz. There’s a lazy river, two indoor jacuzzis, a climbing wall with a Tarzan rope into the pool at the end of it, a terrific area for small children with plenty of slides and water games, a crazy half-pipe only for the bravest of water babies, and an outdoor hot tub.
  2. Head to the Indoor swimming pool a 10-minute walk from the chalet. This amazing facility, which is included in your multi-pass, is a fantastic space to enjoy some fun family time. There’s a 25-metre pool, a medium pool and a small splash area for the little ones. For a few extra euros, you can enjoy an indoor spa/sauna area which has 2 steam rooms and 3 saunas. Then, if the weather does brighten up, you are already there to enjoy the outdoor pools, toboggan and bouncy castle.
  3. Indoor Ice Skating Rink. This a great chance to try out your balancing skills, especially if you have a child wobbling around at your feet! The entrance is included in the multi-pass and is open to the public from 14:15 to 17:15 every day. Skate hire costs an extra €3.50 per person.
  4. Take a day trip: We are based in a fabulous area, with the gorgeous towns of Annecy, Chamonix, Evian-les-Bains, Thonon-Les-Bains, Yvoire and Geneva all around an hour’s drive away (Evian and Thonon are 40 minutes). Pack a mac, a brolly and explore. Check out our top five-day trips blog for more details.
  5. Visit the Aqua Parc at Les Bouverets: A brilliant indoor and outdoor aqua park with a huge variety of slides, from gentle toboggans to the Booster Loop, Devil’s Fall and Morgan’s Thrill. Swimming pools with a wave machine, a spa centre with 6 different styles of sauna and hammam, and a huge outdoor area with additional slides for the kids. Next door to the Aqua Parc is the Swiss Vapeur Parc, a huge collection of mini railways replicating the famous Swiss railway lines. So if after a few hours in the Aqua parc, the rain stops, you could head here and jump aboard the lovely mini trains in this fabulous park, set against the amazing backdrop of Lake Geneva and the French/Swiss Alps.
  6. Canoeing and Kayaking on Lake Montriond. The 3rd largest lake in the region after Lake Geneva and Lake Annecy, this stunning area has a beautiful 3.5km circuit walk, children’s play area, the lovely Hotel du Lac, and you can hire canoes, kayaks and paddle boards, which thankfully come with wet suits if it’s cooler.
  7. White Water Rafting: Negotiating rapids and small waterfalls in an inflatable raft is fantastic fun. With a maximum of 8 people in the boat, your guide will take you down rapids and through gorges, pointing out any wildlife on the way. Either float down and just soak up the atmosphere or take a route that guarantees a real adrenaline rush!  The more rain and water the more impressive the rapids (minimum age 6).
  8. The goat village at Lindarets: Head to one of the most visited spots in the whole of the Haute-Savoie area to feed the free-roaming goats, buy some original souvenirs or have lunch in one of the popular local restaurants. Again, the goats will be out regardless of the rain and you can spend more time having a leisurely lunch.
  9. The Devil’s Bridge Gorges: Just 15 minutes away, these gorges offer a gripping picture of the power of erosion. The jagged profile of the sides and incredible colours in the rocks give the site a spectacular appearance, which is accentuated by the magnificent forest surroundings. Worth a visit, rain or shine.
  10. Indulge in a spa day. When all the activity gets too much, allow yourself to unwind with a full day out at Lavey les Bains or Evian les Bains, the fabulous local spa in Les Gets, or book your own massage and beauty therapist to come to the chalet.  Read our blog on local spa options here. If you have the children, you could entrust them to one of our recommended nannies for the day and just have a well-deserved day to yourself being pampered!!
