Wondering how to motivate your little ones to get on two wheels? Or want to coax your teens off their phones and into the bike parks? Or do you have your own ideas and fancy sneaking in some serious cycling action yourself? Then this, and every other summer in Morzine, is tailor-made for you.

Along with all the events that 2023 is set to bring, the general buzz in town in the summer makes for some brilliantly fun spectating too. If you’re not on a bike, wander into town and lose yourself in the excitement that is grabbing freebies from the Tour de France cycling caravans that pass through before the riders, pro-spot during World Championships, cheer on the competitors in one of the other two-wheeled events, or just chill out in the garden and watch down hillers hurl themselves round the mountain trails whilst sipping an aperitif.

Mountain Bike like a Pro

Morzine has always made a great base for mountain biking, and this coming season is going to be no exception. The lifts open earlier and close later, making it the longest summer yet for you to enjoy this lift-assisted mountain bike mecca. The Passportes du Soleil (24-26 June) provides a great way to explore the area at the start of the season, and as an event caters for everyone from elite level to kids and pedestrians. See their promotional video here. At the other end, from 7-17 September you can also watch the UCI World Championships in Les Gets.

Outside of the main MTB events, day-to-day mountain biking from Chalet Morzine could not be easier. We have a huge and very secure bike storage area, a bike cleaning area, plenty of space for you to tinker to your heart’s content and you can bike from the door. The same goes for road cycling. Speaking of which…

Road Cycling and the Tour de France

16,000 riders will take on a stage of the Tour de France in the étape du tour between Annemasse and Morzine on 9th July, followed a week later on 15 July by the official Tour de France finish in Morzine, and then a stage start from Les Gets on the 16th July. The caravans provide a great source of entertainment for the little ones who will find it hard to resist dancing and cheering along to the music and scrambling for the giveaways – it’s a sport in itself!

Insider Knowledge

Thierry’s knowledge of the trails and pistes from his years of ski instruction and trail running means we can tell you which routes to take at which time of day to help keep you cool on hotter days or warm on cooler days. He knows the mountains inside out and is more than happy to chat with you in French or English.

The best news is we currently have availability for both Passportes and the World Championships (someone has already grabbed themselves the two TdF weeks), so if you’re interested in a seat centre stage check our availability here and get in touch before someone else does!
